THE PIONEERS OF WEST COAST JAZZ

In the early 1950s, a new jazz movement started that was cool, breezy and more laid back compared to the frenetic pace of loud bebop. "West Coast Jazz" became popular with California-born pioneers such as Dave Brubeck and Chet Baker - but was also shaped by jazz artists from elsewhere, including saxophonists Teddy Edwards and Curtis Amy.
